A dear friend of mine has been running a small internet radio station in the West country for about a year and a half.
The station is set up as ltd company by guarantee-not for profit. No-one is paid.
He naively thought that music licenses would be needed for FM broadcasts but not for the internet. Of-course this is not the case however.
I promised I would investigate. The news has cause great distress amongst the few volunteers as the costs could now close the station.
What is the best advice. I understand that it is two licenses required. They are prepared to get those but what about the 18 months passed. They are honest and will declare they have been on air, but will they get fined or prosecuted?
I said I'd deal with it at the anxiety has become too much for my friend.
