Programme #189 first issued : 04 April 2021 ::::: Playing 24/7 all week
"Bella ciao" started life as an Italian protest folk song, originating in the late 19th century, sung by the mondina workers in protest to the harsh working conditions in the paddy fields of North Italy.
The song was modified and adopted as an anthem of the anti-fascist resistance by the Italian partisans, and remains a worldwide anti-fascist hymn of freedom and resistance.
Here we present a rather good instrumental ska version by the Dub Shepherds, and, because you cant have too much anti-facism (or ska) we play it back to back with its version. Enjoy.
