The Managing Director of Google in the UK, the world’s leading e-commerce market, has been confirmed as a keynote speaker at this year’s Radio Festival.

Matt Brittin will be giving an exciting and insightful speech at the Radio Festival, which takes place over three days in Manchester. He will discuss the latest developments from Google and the role the internet can play at the heart of economic growth.

The UK provides the biggest market for Google outside of the United States.

Before joining Google at the start of 2007, Matt spent much of his career in media and marketing, with particular interests in strategy, commercial development and sales performance.

Matt has an MBA from London Business School and an MA from Cambridge. He is a non-executive director of Sainsbury’s and a board trustee of the charities the Media Trust and the Climate Group.

Outside work he enjoys sitting down sports - in June 2011 he cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End, raising money for charity. He has been an international dinghy sailor, rowed in the Boat Race for Cambridge and has won medals for Great Britain in the World Rowing Championships.

Matt Brittin said: “Radio is powerful, intimate, emotionally engaging and highly creative, and it still plays a huge part in today’s media landscape. The internet has allowed developments such as ‘listen again’ and provides opportunities for increasing interactivity with listeners.

The Radio Festival is a great opportunity to debate future developments and ways in which businesses can reach their full potential. I am delighted to be attending.”
John Myers, Chief Executive of The Radio Academy, said: “Google is one of the world’s biggest businesses. It is really exciting to have Matt confirmed as a keynote speaker. The way radio uses the internet is critical to its future and who better to set the landscape than the UK boss of the world’s biggest internet company.”

Tickets for the Radio Festival, being held between 31st October and 2nd November, can be purchased from The Radio Academy.
