Displaying Variables with Mixxx and Icecast

Good day...

I am trying to display the variable for the album name in Mixxx.

I can manually put in the artists name in Mixxx and display it on the player
The track name is picked up automatically and is displayed too
What about the Album name? I can manually input an album name but cannot display it on the player like the other variables.. Listeners, Listeners Peak, Bitrate, etc...

How can this be achieved?

Thank you

With Mixxx's broadcast settings, you can only manually enter the artist and title under 'Custom Metadata'. This is more intended for just displaying a DJ's name and the name of the live show / mix.

By default Mixxx will automatically display a tracks artist / title information. So as long as your music files are all encoded correctly with the album information included in the ID3 tags, then most normal media players will then display this information. But as for HTML5 players, its not always the case that they will all display the full ID3 tag information of your files. We can see that you are using on your website the same HTML5 player that we use here (jplayer). We are pretty sure that this will not display that much of the ID3 tag information.

To be honest we don't think it really matters all that much anyway, as long as a listener can see the artist and track name then if they wish to find out more about / buy the track its easy enough to just google the album information.

Thank you for your response. We do not have a license to re-broadcast official music nor are we interested in doing so. What we broadcast is live concert recordings recorded by audience members. Recordings that no one owns. For instance, If a band plays 80 concerts in one year chances are, we may have 60+ recordings of that concert from different venues around the world. Therefore the band may play 60 versions of that song which are all slightly different. We need to display the band name, track name / title, and album name (recording date) for each of the songs. Since Mixxx has manual entries for all of these settings right within their software, we were under the impression that all of these fields (not some of them) could be displayed on the HTML 5 player. Any future update for Mixxx to do this? Bitrate comes through, Song Name comes through, Band name comes through, Peak listeners comes through, etc. But Album name does not, even though there is an area to input this information into Mixxx in the Auto DJ Window.

No problem. :)

Be careful (or at least aware) that you are probably still breaching copyright laws doing this. Even though they are personal (or otherwise obtained "unofficial") recordings, most music is covered by two separate forms of copyright. That is the composition and then the recording. So even though you may not be breaching the recording copyright, you still would be with the compositions themselves. But youtube for example is filled with such bootleg live concert recordings and it appears as though you are for non-profit as "traders", so you will probably be ok.

We have no idea what future updates Mixxx have planned? We have not tried out Mixxx's AutoDJ feature either, we will have to have a mess around with it and see what results we get from it at some point.

We tested your stream in VLC player to see if that displays the album information and this didn't either.

Are you playing wav / aiff / flac files by any chance? Or are the recordings encoded as Mp3 with the full metadata attached in their ID3 tags?

Also, the information that is displayed in your HTML5 player is the same information that is displayed on your Icecast servers status page: http://lossless.echoeshub.com:5432/ You will notice that this page does not display the album info either by default.

One work around to consider would be to include the album / recording date in the actual track title itself. So for example: "Pink Floyd" - "Poles Apart (The Division Bell) Live at Earls Court London 1994". That might be an easier way of you guys doing this.
