My internet radio works well some of the time, but at other times the sound keeps breaking up due to buffering and it is therefore useless. Is it feasible to design a radio to overcome this problem? Are there any currently available brands and models that are superior in this respect, or do they all have the same weakness? Are there any impartial sources of information on this topic?

The problem could be related to either your connection or the server connection of the radio being the issue. If it happens more often than not on radio's its likely your connection and may be worth checking if your ISP has any issues. You can monitor your network packet loss by using the MTR tool.
