Bit rate for speech only

I am aware that the bit rate for CD quality speech is 128 but for costing purposes i want to try to reduce the bit rate.
The application is single speech commentating to 500 users. Any suggestions for a good quality bit rate, is 80 too low ?

80 may even be too high 64 or 32 would probably do fine. As a test record a few sentences with a program like Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder and save as different bitrates to see what it sounds like.
