Any way to tell what song is currently playing?

I'm a bit new to all this internet radio stuff, and am presently using VLC to listen as it seems fast, stable and high quality. But... is there any way to tell what song is playing? Sometimes I like a song and it's like a mystery!

I've noticed some stations pop up little messages through VLC... does it depend on the station?
 
Hi Mike.

If some stations are using the 'AutoDJ' feature this will display the artist / track titles in VLC. Also some 'live' stream encoders (such as VirtualDJ for example) will also display this information when mixing with audio files such as Mp3. However, some DJ's could be mixing live on Vinyl or CD decks with the output of their DJ mixer being streamed on the station. Therefore, this will then not display any artist or track information as there is no way this information could be read from an audio signal.

So yes, it does really depend on the station. We hope this helps. :)
