About Swing Music

Swing music (also known as swing jazz) is a form of american jazz music that originated in the early 1930s and became its own identifiable style by the 1940s. Swing music places a strong emphasis on the rhythm section of a band. This rhythm section consists of a double bass and drums which act as the backbone for the lead section of brass instruments such as trumpets, trombones and the saxophone. Swing music is characterised by its swing time rhythm where emphasis is placed on the off beat (or weaker pulse) within the music.
